About Neighbourhood Safety

Created by Sarah Carmody from Leeds, West Yorkshire, this project was formed in the wake of the violent and racist riots in the UK in order to form local neighbourhood groups in which people could feel safer together.

The project quickly spread to a large number of Whatsapp Groups around the UK where like-minded people get together and have a space to call on their neighbours if they feel unsafe. In case of an emergency when someone is in danger then 999 is always the first call but then, by posting in the Whatsapp group, neighbours are happy to visit or even come and sit with someone who feels afraid.
